Project Overview
GridsLab is a modular wireless charging station designed around an unexpected idea: what if the object charging your phone could also be something you build on? We designed a charger with a surface fully compatible with LEGO® bricks — turning a piece of desk tech into a customizable creative canvas.

The Challenge
Wireless chargers are usually static, one-note objects — they do one job and disappear into the background of a desk. The challenge was to give a charging station a reason to be noticed and interacted with daily, without compromising the thing it's actually there to do: charge a phone, reliably and safely.

The Approach
We designed the charging surface as a true LEGO-compatible baseplate, so bricks snap directly onto the body of the charger — meaning the object itself becomes a small, ever-changing build platform sitting next to your phone. The modularity goes further than decoration: the same snap system was designed to support add-ons like small lights or a display module, so the charger can be extended rather than replaced as needs change. Every design decision had to answer two questions at once — does this still charge properly, and does this still snap together like LEGO expects it to.

The Outcome
The result is what we believe is the world's first modular, LEGO-compatible wireless charger — a desk object that's equal parts function and toy. It's a good example of what happens when we let a playful constraint (in this case, real brick compatibility) shape a serious engineering problem instead of treating them as separate conversations.
